Zhai Xianli

Zhai Xianli, called Ugly Ink, was born in 1947 in Heze City, Shandong Province. He is a member of China Artists Association, a national-level artist, a member of Guangdong Calligraphers Association, the president of Shenzhen Entrepreneurs Painting and Calligraphy Society, the president of Chinese Culture and Art Exchange Society, the honorary president of Shenzhen Qilu Painting and Calligraphy Institute, and the secretary of the party committee of the former chairman of Shenzhen Duty-Free Group. Zhai Xianli has loved calligraphy and painting since he was young, and has been working on them for decades, painting and enlightening himself with his books. He has a wide range of subjects in painting, and is proficient in landscape painting, but also in flowers and birds, especially peonies, which are majestic, thick, and heavy; his calligraphy is distinguished by cursive, which is wild but not wild, sketchy but not rash, spacious, flat and precipitous, and the layout is varied, colorful and interesting.
